![]() That’s the first of several signs that this series is set to deliver a much-needed shock to the Star Wars system and teach a 45-year-old franchise new tricks. The milieu of Morlana One’s euphemistically labeled “Leisure Zone,” where the brothel isn’t supposed to be, feels and looks less like Star Wars than Blade Runner 2049. When the Security Inspection Team’s chief inspector says, “They were in a brothel, which we’re not supposed to have,” he could have been a Disney exec sending notes on the script. ![]() The first shots-from director Toby Haynes’s lens and from Cassian’s blaster-double as shots across the bow of anyone who wanted more of the same sort of Star Wars story. As tone-setting scenes go, Andor’s opening-in which Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor stalks through a red-light district en route to a high-priced bordello-doesn’t take long to telegraph that we’re not in Nevarro or Mos Espa anymore. That’s not the only difference between the introductions to Disney’s formative and most successful Star Wars series and to its latest bid for streaming supremacy, but it’s a significant one. Here’s the difference: In The Mandalorian, the bar is just a bar. I could be describing the first scene of the premiere of either The Mandalorian or Andor. He quickly claims a life in a way that suggests that this isn’t his first kill. He doesn’t care much for manners, and after entering the bar, it doesn’t take him long to run afoul of the patrons. He’s searching for someone, and maybe he’s searching for some thing. As an adult, he’s in exile from a world that the Empire destroyed. A victim of galactic turmoil, he lost his home and his parents at an early age. His emotions and expressions are inscrutable. He’s a hard man who knows how to handle himself he had to grow up early. It will be available for preorder on Thursday at 1:00 PM with expected arrival in Spring 2023.A man walks into a bar. I’d also be surprised if another version featuring Hayden Christensen’s scarred likeness isn’t released later on (albeit with a “deluxe” price point).ĭarth Vader will retail for $24.99 and be sold at most major retailers. This figure is a great chance to add Vader to your Black Series collection if you still need him, but an easy pass otherwise. If there’s any difference between this version of Darth Vader and the last couple that have been released, then someone smarter and/or more detail-oriented than I will need to point it out. If you’re still determined to go through the hassle, then the figure will be available for preorder on Thursday at 1:00 PM EDT with expected arrival in Spring 2023. Those lucky enough to beat the scalper bots and place a preorder will then have to wonder if/when they’ll get an email announcing that their purchase has been canceled. That means an extra $3 tacked onto the retail price ($27.99). If you already preordered the first version, however, then don’t worry - Ben Kenobi (Tibidon Station) is a Target exclusive. The sculpt, portrait, and soft goods cloak look fantastic. It may not come with the LOLA droid accessory, but this is definitely the version of the character I’d rather get.
